Savor "Ogottso", the Feast Cuisine of the Kiso Road, at Kaido Roman On-yado Tsutaya
When traveling, we seek more than just a meal to satisfy hunger. At our inn, we offer "Kyōō Ryōri Ogottso," a traditional feast passed down through the Kiso Road, prepared with seasonal delights from Shinshu and unique ingredients and seasonings from Kiso. As you enjoy each bite, you'll experience the hospitality of this land, enriched by the culinary culture nurtured at the foot of Mount Kiso Ontake in the deep mountains of Kiso Valley.
Kyōō Ryōri Ogottso of Kiso Road and Edo Hospitality

"Ogottso" is the Kiso word for a feast: heartfelt hospitality cuisine handed down along the Kiso Road since long ago. We take our cue from Kiso's history, when the Kiso magistrate entertained feudal lords from across the country with feasts even deep in the mountains. For Tsutaya, founded in 1688 as an inn of the Fukushima-juku post town on the Nakasendo's Kiso Road, the meal is a precious time for unwinding the fatigue of travel and taking home memories of the Kiso Road.
In the deep Kiso Valley, delicious and healthy foods like miso, soy sauce, and pickles have thrived since ancient times. We carefully layer the blessings of the land, considering the colors when the dishes are presented, the seasonal delicacies of Shinshu, and the unique ingredients and seasonings of Kiso. Our "Ogottso" aims to be a feast that connects the history of the Kiso Road with the current season.

Unique Flavors of Shinshu
Enjoy the delights of Shinshu Marble Pork, local Kiso sake, and Shinshu wines and whiskies.

Among them, "Shinshu Marble Pork" is pork nurtured by the climate, natural features, refreshing air, and clear water of Shinshu. It's a well-known brand among connoisseurs in Shinshu, with no odor and juicy meat quality due to its moderate fat. It's a cherished taste of Shinshu at our inn, surprising guests from outside the prefecture with its deliciousness. It adds a rich sense of satisfaction to dinners on the Kiso Road.
Taste of Kiso: Dinner, Breakfast, and Special Orders

At dinner, savor the bounty of Shinshu and the flavors of the season while feeling the atmosphere of the Kiso Road woven by 350 years of history. Centered on seasonal Shinshu ingredients and incorporating foods and seasonings unique to Kiso, each dish is prepared with heartfelt care.

For breakfast, we serve a variety of blessings from the Shinshu mountains on Kiso lacquerware. The fluffy white rice cooked in a pot is perfect for a morning in Kiso. Enjoy the luster of the dishes, the warmth of the rice, and the view of mountain ingredients, allowing you to leisurely start your day.

If you would like a little more of Shinshu's flavors alongside the main course, we also offer à la carte dishes: Shinshu premium beef for shabu-shabu at 4,500 yen per plate (tax included), salt-grilled iwana char at 1,320 yen per fish (tax included), and an assortment of three kinds of horse sashimi at 2,750 yen per person (tax included). All must be reserved by the day before; same-day orders carry a surcharge. Why not add one more dish to the table to suit the purpose of your trip or your companions' tastes?
Besides Kiso sake, we stock a selection of Shinshu wines, whisky and other fine drinks from the region. Sake brewing has a long history on the Kiso Road, which is home to four breweries. Enjoy sake from Nanawarai Shuzo, the brewery just across the street from the inn, as well as sake from Nakazen Shuzoten, another brewery beloved in Kiso, in our dining hall. Choosing a glass to go with each dish quietly heightens the pleasure of dinner. Please try them with your evening meal.
Dining Experience at "Sachi no Kura" and Private Dining Rooms

Meals are served in Sachi-no-Kura, our dining hall on the 2nd floor of the main building. Dishes gathering the bounty of Kiso are enjoyed in a tatami-floored dining room furnished with tables and chairs, shoes off, at your leisure. Morning and evening, you can dine comfortably seated in a chair. The calm of tatami and the ease of chair seating come together in a space where you can enjoy the flavors of Kiso while chatting. We are flexible with dietary requirements such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free; please let us know at least one day before arrival.

Besides Sachi-no-Kura, private dining rooms are available for an additional charge; please ask if you would like one.
