About

Kaido Roman On-yado Tsutaya is a long-established ryokan founded in 1688 (the first year of the Genroku era) as an inn of Fukushima-juku, a post town on the Nakasendo's Kiso Road. Still standing on the same riverside site along the Kiso River, it welcomes guests with open-air baths and creative Japanese cuisine made from local ingredients. Inside, a lounge evoking an old post town, Kiso lacquerware and other touches of traditional Japanese "wa" (harmony) are found throughout. Enjoy the murmur of the Kiso River, the herbal bath and seasonal delicacies of Shinshu while immersing yourself in the history and nature of the Kiso Road.

Enjoy the soft natural hot spring water that rises from sacred Mount Ontake (Kiso Ontake) in our open-air bath beside the Kiso River. The open-air bath uses spring water rich in natural carbonic acid, so you can soak while feeling the four seasons of the Kiso Valley. The indoor bath is a herbal bath infused with "Hyakusoyaku", a traditional Kiso Valley remedy. Spring type: carbon-dioxide-calcium-bicarbonate cold mineral spring. For overnight guests the onsen open-air bath is available 5:00–23:00, and the indoor bath 24 hours except during cleaning. Day-use bathing (800 yen, 13:00–20:00) is also welcome, but may be unavailable depending on bookings, so please contact us in advance. Note: the private baths in the rooms with open-air baths are not hot-spring water.

Tattoo Policy

Tattoos allowed
Guests with tattoos are welcome in the onsen. Babies and small children may bathe with a guardian. Please note: no swimsuits, photography, food or drinks in the bathing area.
