How to find coin lockers near Atami Station

Atami is known for its hot springs and seaside resort vibes. But to enjoy the city fully, travelling light is essential. In this article, we explain everything you need to know about luggage storage and coin lockers at Atami Station — where they are, how to use them, and tips for your visit.

Atami Station Is Compact

Atami Station is relatively compact and easy to navigate. However, the area surrounding the station has many steep slopes, so dragging a suitcase around can be tiring. That’s why using a coin locker is highly recommended.

There are two main types of coin lockers at Atami Station: inside the ticket gates and outside the gates. Note that using lockers inside the gates requires a valid train ticket, so we recommend using the ones outside the ticket gates.

  • There is only one main ticket gate at the station(the Shinkansen has a separate gate).

  • Once you exit, you’ll see the taxi and bus stops straight ahead, and to the right, the LUSCA Atami shopping building and the tourist information centre.

  • Plenty of lockers are available outside the gates — easy to find and more convenient!

Best Coin Locker Locations at Atami Station

Here are the top three recommended coin locker spots around Atami Station:

1. Outside the ticket gates: Next to the ticket machines & JR Office (Turn left after the gate)

This is the largest set of coin lockers and is accessible 24 hours a day. There are clear signs in the station, so it’s easy to find. However, this location is popular with tourists, so large lockers may be unavailable in the afternoon.

  • Location: Turn left after exiting the main gate. Lockers are next to the ticket machines and “Midori no Madoguchi” (JR Ticket Office).

  • Opening hours: 24 hours

  • Price: ¥300–¥800 depending on the size

Coin lockers are also listed on the information board inside the station.

2. LUSCA Atami (3rd floor, Turn right after the ticket gate)

My personal favourite is this hidden gem in the LUSCA Atami shopping complex. Turn right after the ticket gate of the station and go up to the 3rd floor. There are plenty of lockers here, and it’s often less crowded. The 1st floor has a tourist information centre with free maps and brochures.

Note: Access is limited to the shopping centre’s opening hours.

  • Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM

  • Price: ¥400–¥800

3. Atami Ekimae Daiichi Building (ATAMIX) 1st floor Luggage Storage Service

Few people know about this luggage storage area located in the Atami Ekimae Daiichi Building (ATAMIX), just across the road from the station square. This place is absolutely recommended. To be honest, the only drawback is that it closes a bit early, but the price is very cheap, so it is the luggage storage I recommend the most.

  • Location: Atami Ekimae Daiichi Building (ATAMIX) 1st floor, directly across from the station

  • Prices: ¥100-500 (depends on the size)

  • Opening Hours: 9:30 AM – 5:50 PM

Critical Warning: The service closes early at 5:50 PM, and reception may end around 5:00 PM or 5:40 PM. Please pay careful attention to pickup times and confirm operating hours in advance.

Inside this building, there are also coin lockers and luggage storage on the ground floor and the first basement floor. Please note that each one has different opening hours.

Payment Methods

Most lockers accept cash (¥100 coins), but many also support IC cards like Suica and PASMO. However, credit cards are not accepted.

  • At the ticket machine/JR office lockers and LUSCA Atami lockers, IC card payment is available at select machines.

  • Always check the payment panel before inserting your luggage.
